Happy Lucky/Green/St. Patrick’s Day

by Brooke on March 17, 2009

Today was such a delightful day! It’s amazing how happy the warm weather makes me. :)

This is my first daffodil of this spring. It looks so cheerful in my front yard and I love it. I can’t wait for the rest of them to bloom and for the red tulips to follow.

Today we had Jake and Brielle to play, and we had fun playing at the park and getting all of the toys and bikes and scooters out of the garage. We played hopscotch and the boys raced up and down the sidewalk.

Of course Annie couldn’t let go of her beverage, but it didn’t slow her down! :)

The leprechauns must’ve forgotten to visit our house this morning, I guess I scared them away with my morning breath…..unlike these cute people and their fun leprechaun friends. Our house is a huge pig-sty but unfortunately I can’t blame that on mischevious small green men. It’s all US. But I did make a festive peanut butter shamrock sandwich creation for lunch with a bit of quick thinking. :) Sprinkles will make any kid happy.

Brandon is enjoying his stint as VIP in his class. That button does not leave his shirt until seconds before bedtime. His duties have included holding open the door, marking the tally (how many days of school they’ve had), being a messenger, etc. Very Important stuff like that.

So we played outside most of the day, ran some errands, hung out with my mom and ate some rice krispie treats and got home in time to whip up some homemade green waffles (our little St. Patrick’s Day tradition). We also made green cookies. And raided our closets for anything green to wear. :) No pinchies for us!

Haylie was kind of frightened by the color of her waffles….but she managed to eat a few.

Then it was off to Jaden’s basketball game! Ahhh, it’s kind of a strange feeling to walk through the halls of your old high school while holding your kids’ hands. Makes you feel old and sort of like all of those years were part of some strange dream, because it’s hard to imagine that life didn’t always used to be the way it is NOW. Know what I mean?

Look at those sweet moves. It was fun to watch the guys play and to chat with cute wives of teammates and watch all of our kids frolic in the same gym where I used to cheer Jaden on 12 years ago……not as a cheerleader, mind you, but decked out in orange and black just the same. :) Brandon LOVED watching his dad play, and loved shooting hoops during time-outs and half time. And drinking all of Jaden’s water.

Anyway, I really do feel like a lucky gal today. Lucky to have all that I have, especially my husband and kids and family. Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Some random notable quotes from today:

ANNIE

Lately she’s been telling jokes that make absolutely NO sense:
“Why did the jelly roll across the sidewalk? Because the chicken got on the plane.” (what in the world?)

“Mom, are we going to get something for Aaron?” (meaning “run errands”)

“Mom, dogs just need to get to know you.” (no idea where this came from)

“I’m going to cheer for daddy.”

BRANDON

(towards the end of Jaden’s game–his team were the white jerseys) “Dad, I think you should turn your shirt to black–because the black team is winning.”

“Let’s go to the kids basketball course.” (court)

“I’m excited to do the Writer’s Breethcase.” (he gets to use the “Writer’s Briefcase” during VIP week)
Anyway, hope you all had a great day too. :) See you soon!!

yes little annie was telling knock knock jokes at our house on monday. Then all the kids got into it. Not one joke made sense but they were laughing their heads off. Even Chloe.

Your post was so full of excitment, happiness, laughter, and love. (lol, I’m a dork) I wish I could have been at your house for St. Patricks Day… we did NOTHING of those sorts. Miss you and love you!

I LOVE those quotes – I swear I can see the kids saying them. So funny! Cash’s quote is: “lglglgl, blblblbl, mmmmm, ahhhhh” – we laugh. :)

Brandon has told us all about his VIP status…how cute!! You must be so proud! :)

I felt bad yesterday when he had to leave our house to be home by 5 to go to the bball game, he was so sad he had to leave! I am glad he ended up having a fun time at the game!

Have I told you lately how much I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog. It’s not quite as good as talking to you in person, but almost. I love your shamrock sandwiches…how clever and cute. My kids will eat pretty much anything if I cut them in shapes. I’m glad you got out and enjoyed some fresh air as well. It was delightful. Wish we could do that together some time soon! Love the scrapbook pages, darling pics! Oh and I love Annie’s comment about getting something for “Aaron” HILARIOUS! Miss you!

Adorable pics and such sweet quotes. My little Mary does the same thing…”Mom when are we going to Miss Erins?” I reply, “Mary, we aren’t going to Miss Erin’s (her babysitter when I was still teaching) we are running ERRANDS.” Mary: “What we’re not going to Miss Erin’s?” ME: “Oh never mind…we’ll just wave to Miss Erin when we leave the subdivision.” LOL

I can’t believe how warm it is there already. We still have a foot of snow in the backyard and it is 22 degrees today and we are glad to have it that warm. The sun us shining and the kids will throw on their snow clothes to go and play outside. I love seeing your little family and it brought back some good memories to see pictures of Jaden playing basketball.
