We had a fun Valentine weekend. It’s like a bright spot right in between Christmas and Easter, something fun to look forward to.
It all started earlier in the week….. I was sitting on the couch feeding Haylie when I noticed Brandon sort of hiding and working on something secretively behind the counter. I asked what was going on and he said “I’m doing something.” I said “Are you making right choices?” (doesn’t that sound like SUCH a motherly thing to say?!?! Heeee.) And he said “Yes!” so I trusted him.
Turns out he was making me his cute version of messages in a bottle–love notes in plastic cups. I snuck a picture of his little set-up and supplies, hidden behind the counter.
And one at a time, Brandon presented me with these 3 love notes. Let me tell you, they completely MADE MY DAY.
Fun–that’s what we’re striving for!
See, you want your kids to love you AND like you. Even if it does take some bribery such as toys to win that “like.” It’s purely materialistic. (kidding!!) Brandon was emphatic about this one, notice all the exclamation points. It was so exciting!
This one has to be my favorite. “I totally love you.” What I love about these notes is that he did it completely on his own–I love that he tried to spell things out all by himself, that he was so creative about it, and he made it fun for me with each little individual note in the cups. These are TREASURES to me.
Friday was Brandon’s school party. His teacher sure did make it easy on me because the kids decorated their Valentine envelopes at school so I didn’t have to come up with an over-the-top crafty Valentine box extravaganza. I loved it.
I did create his classmate Valentines though, but it took no time at all. Brandon wanted Wall-E, of course, so I put together a simple 4×6 card in photoshop and taped the sucker to look like Wall-E was holding it. My favorite part is that I had Brandon write out the message in his own handwriting, and then I scanned it and added it to the card. Saved time so he didn’t have to write a novel on 20 cards. He was super happy with them.
I made one for Annie to give some of her cute friends too. Surprisingly enough, she went with the Cinderella theme. She loved it.
Jaden surprised me with some beautiful flowers and a massage appointment on Friday while he stayed with the kids. It was wonderful. I think every mom should have a massage at least once a week. Or at least once a year. For Jaden, the kids and I picked out a new game for the Wii and some candy. It was also fun to get balloons, treats, and chocolate covered strawberries from some sweet friends and family. xoxo

I like to do little things on Valentine’s Day for my kids, so this year I got those adorable little tin mailboxes from the Target Dollar Spot and dressed them up a bit with my digital scrapbooking skillz. I think they’re cute.
{Valentine Mailboxes–using papers/elements from “Smitten,” this year’s Valentine kit by GG Digital Designs, and the font “Giggles” by Fontologie.}
I filled them with a bit of candy (fishy crackers and fruit puffs for Haylie) and put them on the front porch and rang the doorbell. The kids were thrilled as can be.
I also made some rice krispie treats using those strawberry marshmallows–YUM. I made ice cream cones and heart suckers, both of which were big hits. It’s fun to make Valentine-y things.
We spent the day together Saturday. Jaden, Brandon and Annie played out in the snow and went to the park for a while, then they had some hot chocolate. We opted to stay in that night and have dinner as a family–I kept it simple and comfy. We had heart shaped grilled cheese and creamy tomato soup, raspberry applesauce, strawberries and grapes, and the rice krispie treats for dessert. We went around the table and had everyone share things we love about each member of the family. Sweet AND hilarious. It was a great day.
I love my Valentines. I love these kids (and Jaden) more than anything!
