Deck the Halls

by Brooke on December 12, 2007

Christmas is my favorite holiday to decorate for. I’ve always wanted to take pictures of our house with all the decorations up and kind of “document” this tradition, so on Saturday night I went around the house and did just that. Here are a few of them.

This is my nativity that I bought when I did the BYU study abroad program in Jerusalem. It is hand carved from olive wood and is one of my favorite possessions. It’s in our entryway.

I also have some real frankencense, myhrr, and gold displayed in an olive wood box–got these in Jerusalem as well. It’s been fun telling Brandon and Annie about it.

I also have a Bethlehem village and finally have a place to put it! This is set up in our family room. The kids have been really careful with it and love to look at how the lights flicker in the windows like firelight.

I love how cozy it feels with just the Christmas lights on at night and the pine candle burning (so it smells like a real tree without the hassle!). I’ll try to post more pictures later.

Wow! I am impressed – gorgeous. Sure feel like a loser now. That’s really neat stuff from Jerusalem. I’m glad your kids are better than mine with precious items!

I try to focus on the true meaning of Christmas…so don’t get caught up in all that decor stuff.

I Love your tree. It looks so pretty! I decided that reading your blog is doing nothing for my self esteem. I might have to take a break for a while.

Your house is so festive! I love the Jerusalem nativity, too. It brings back such fond memories. (Why take 2 when 1 will do?)

Where did you get that Bethlehem village? Everyone needs one of those to remind them of the true meaning of Christmas.

This is so beautiful. It makes me want to come spend Christmas at your house. What kind of camera do you have? I want one. :)

Kirsten, I’ve had the Bethlehem village for several years. My mom gave it to me and I think she got it at Costco.

Bethany, I have a Canon Rebel XTi DSLR. I love it to pieces.

Em, let’s go back!! :)

If I just keep my computer open to this page, then my house will look this good too. I love the picture of the mirror ball ornament and the picture of the garland with the out-of-focus Santa art in the background. Lovely photo skills.

What a wonderful tree. You are such an amazing photographer. I have loved just looking through your blog. I found your link from looking at Katie’s and had remembered you from when we visited BYU from Ricks with Katie and Kim. :) What cute kids you’ve got! Happy Christmas!
