We were hanging out a bit tonight before Brandon went to bed and he said something that reminded me of a funny thing that happened this summer. I wanted to write it down before I forgot.
We were working on getting Brandon to stay dry every night and basically set a curfew for when he could have drinks. He asked me “why”, of course, since he asks “WHY” about everything. I told him that if he drinks too much too late, then he’ll wet the bed. Another “WHY?” Which led me into an elementary explanation of how urine is made and how it all works. Isn’t that a fun discussion to have with your 4 year old? You drink something, your body takes the stuff it needs, then the rest turns into pee.
Fast forward to sacrament meeting a little while later. We were at the missionary farewell of one of the kids who Jaden used to work with in Young Men before the ward split. Brandon was in quite the form that day. (There was a girl behind us with a mohawk. He pointed and stared and said loudly “Hey mom, look at that silly hair!” So I was already mortified.) He was drinking some chocolate milk we had let him bring when suddenly he blurted out (non-reverently, of course) “Mom, I think my chocolate milk is turning into pee right now!” Cue the snickers of everyone else who was laughing because it wasn’t their own kid saying it.
Tonight he had some root beer kind of later than we normally allowed so I reminded him to get up if he had to go during the night. He told me, “I think the root beer is already turning yellow.” That is what triggered the fond memory.
A sweet thing from tonight–every night the bedtime routine for Brandon includes me snuggling with him for a minute (where the whole time he’s saying “Are you leaving now? Is it a minute yet?”) and then he likes Jaden to play “Blackbird” by Paul McCartney on the guitar. Is that random for a 4 1/2 year old? Tonight he sang the words with Jaden and it was so sweet. His little high pitched voice singing along….and then when he was finished he said, “I’m really good at singing” with a big smile on his face. As much as he can drive me crazy, little moments like this remind me how much I love the boy.

Brandon sounds like he is such a cutie. He was so sweet at the reunion, giving Avarie a kiss on her hand! Does it feel good to be moved and getting things organized? I HATE moving so bad, Spence and I have moved Four times since we have been married (3 yrs). I know pretty crazy!!!
Hey Brooke!!! Brandon seems like such a cutie. He was so sweet at the reunion, he came up to Avarie and gave her a kiss on the hand. Kids are the BEST!! I am so glad you are back into the world of blogging after you are getting settled in your new place.
I love Brandon too. What a hoot! I wish I had been there in church. Sometimes we need just that bit of humor to carry us through.
I can hardly wait to have those litlle moments with my little girl. It sounds like a lot of fun. I am also excited for those really annoying moments!!
Thanks for the email. I will call soon. I have lots of questions.
I cannot count the number of embarrasing things blurted out by my kids at church. Why they choose there for commentary is beyond me! Brandon’s story is super funny.
We drove down your street on Saturday, but I didn’t have your house number with me, so we just looked at the ‘hood. Cute neighborhood! I’m ready to come visit when you get settled.
How sweet!! Glad to see you posting again! I always enjoy your stories!
I am laughing out loud at how funny the things are that kids say! Thanks for the comic relief!
I wish I would have been one of those people in church to hear Brandon say that! I would have peed for sure! He is so funny! In 10 years, you will so glad that you wrote that down!
