Well, minus a mini-van.

Last night Brandon had his very first soccer game! We’ve been looking forward to this pretty much since before he was born. On Monday I bought him his first pair of cleats (or “cleeps” as he called them) so he wore his entire soccer uniform the entire day. All day. As soon as he got his “cleeps” on he ran a few laps around the backyard. He almost slept in his shin guards. He’s been asking “is it Tuesday yet? Is my soccer game on yet!” for at least a week.
3 and 4 year olds playing soccer is hilarious. I laughed almost the whole game. They all looked like little neon munchkins running amuck. Their uniforms are so flourescent lime yellow that they seriously will burn your retinas. I decided that the next time we go to Disneyland, Brandon is wearing that shirt. We’d never lose him. And the shirts are HUGE. But they all were so cute. Brandon kicked the ball a lot before the game started, but didn’t really get a lot of action in the actual game. By the time it was his turn to play he wasn’t as eager to chase the ball around with the “bunch”. At one point he was playing keeper and was having more fun getting tangled up in the net than actually paying attention to what was going on. And then there was the task of staying ON the field. Several times he just ran off the field to play with Annie, or run around a tree, or get a drink. Pretty funny. He wasn’t the only one wanting to leave the field at times–I heard of several BRIBERIES going on (hey Mand, did you guys get all of your ice cream cones?!? Ha ha). When the game was officially over, Brandon said to Jaden, “Hey Daddy, I want to go play soccer now!” Sigh. All in all, though, he did pretty good. It was just fun to be there.
I’ve seriously always wanted to be a soccer mom.

Hilarious!!! T-ball is MUCH the same way!!! (You know, picking dandilions – how do you spell that? – looking for shapes in the clouds . . .)
I can’t wait till it’s our turn to do the soccer thing. Your post cracked me up. Kids are hilarious at this stage of their life. I think they make us realize that we can’t take ourselves too seriously.
ya it didn’t go so well for us as you saw. Jake came straight home and was sent to bed. He woke up this morning and said, “I want to try soccer again on Saturday”. Ya we’ll see about that. I actually heard about Brandon’s wandering during the game. At least you got him to play!
Oh my gosh, how cute! And those are very bright shirts, I’m gonna get one for hubby so I don’t lose him shopping, lol Love your photos from the Tulip festival!!
Congrats on becoming a soccer mom!! We start t-ball next week and I am so looking forward to watching from the sidelines. So adorable!
My stepson used to play soccer from the age of five (he’s now 15) and my own boys are 3 and 4 so I can imagine how proud you must have been!! The photos are fantastic!!
Yup! Emma got her ice cream cone. Whatever works, right? I actually was the one that ate it though. I wonder if there will be less tears and drama on Saturday?
